Like I mentioned earlier, we've been working on going potty in the toilet. I've always believed in lots and lots of positive reinforcement, probably the reason why Jacob tells me "Good job!" after pretty much anything I do (it's always nice to get a pat on the back right?) Anyway, especially during potty training... we dance, clap, say "good job" over and over again. Today after telling Jacob, "Good job!" a couple of times, for telling me he needed to go and actually going, Jacob replies, "Good job pee-pee!!" I about laughed my guts out.
If you don't already know, Jacob is not the best at eating. He's not into trying new things. Most of the time he just doesn't eat dinner. Today we were going to make cookies for FHE and Jacob LOVES to make cookies. He always licks the paddle after we're done and sits on the counter... it's all routine. I told him he couldn't lick the paddle if he didn't try his dinner, but like usual he begged to go to bed instead or wanted to watch a show, etc. I just chose to ignore him, because it happens all the time and I can never ever get him to eat something new. While I was finishing up the cookies I hear Jon talking to Jacob in the living room, "Jacob... will you eat dinner for grandma? Will you eat dinner for grandpa?" Jacob didn't say anything he just stared at Jon... so Jon kept going, "Will you eat dinner for Ci-Ci (Cathie)? Will you eat dinner for Jon-Jon?" Jacob got up and yelled, "YES!" So he ran in the kitchen and I had a tiny piece on the fork and he puffed up his chest like he was doing something so brave and ate it... what kills me is after the first bite, he LOVED it so he ate the entire dish and didn't even want cookies! Sometimes it just takes a completely different approach!
Jon plays Xbox Live with his brother David quit often and as we were getting ready for bed, Jacob said out of the blue, "I want to talk to David." So he ran over to the headphones that connect to the Xbox so that you can talk to the people you're playing with and Jacob said, "Hi David!" (Except the cutest part is how he says David.... "Day-bid) then he sat there for a second said, "Hi David.... awe... it's not working!"
Later on this evening we were watching TV together and Jacob kept saying, "Oh my gosh!!" Over and over again... no idea why... there wasn't anything crazy on the show he hadn't seen three thousand times already, but we kept trying to get him to say other things like, "Oh my!" or "Oh my goodness!" He repeated all of them. He's getting to the age where he's curious about different sayings and what people are saying and repeating it all... fun... but scary at the same time.
