My Grandma Petersen passed away about a week and a half ago. She has been suffering from cancer for a long time and it actually was more of a blessing that she is no longer suffering in that body and I know is happy now. My mom brought my grandpa back to stay at her house, and now I am taking care of grandpa full time Monday-Thursday. Grandpa had a couple of little strokes a little while back and is unable to speak fully. At first I was really scared and didn't want to do it, but after a lot of hope and faith, it has turned out to be a lot of fun hanging out with my grandpa and be able to bring my baby along for the ride. My grandpa loves Jacob! He holds him for a couple minutes at a time, but Jacob smiles and smiles at him. AND something great that happened... grandpa has said several phrases together. Today he said, "Yes, I would." When I asked him if he would like to play some cards. That is so big for him. He usually is only speaking one letter answers such as "yes" and "no" and shakes his head. Then, my mom asked where my dad was and grandpa said, "he's out in the..." and then he trailed off. It was amazing. I was a little unsure about doing this because I just graduated and I was totally looking forward to subbing and this happened. It has turned out to be a blessing, I know there will be tough days as grandpa gets worse, but at least I will be able to be a part of his life and be able to share Jacob's life with him as well.

I'm sorry Amy! That is so hard. It's never fun having a loved one pass away but it's such a blessing that we know the plan of salvation and where they are. That's neat that you get to spend so much time with your grandpa and get to know him so much better. I'm sure you'll never regret the time you spend taking care of him. Hope all is well.. miss you!
I am so sorry to hear about your grandma, Amy! Things definitely happen for a reason though, and maybe working wasn't what you were supposed to do at this time (now that you have a baby). What a neat opportunity for you to serve and to receive those blessings! You continue to amaze me. Love you lots!
